League recap: Howells-Dodge extends winning streak with victory over Cedar Bluffs

D1 District 2 (8 Man) recap Sept. 26, 2012

Howells-Dodge extended the longest winning streak in D1 District 2 (8 Man) this week by beating Cedar Bluffs, 68-32. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic led the league in scoring this week after putting up 72 points on Omaha Christian Academy.

Nick Wendt was the best wideout in the league this week as Clarkson/Leigh defeated Omaha Nation. Wendt racked up two receptions for 26 yards. Thomas Urban helped Clarkson/Leigh's passing attack out by catching one ball for 12 yards.

Casey Wisnieski made the biggest impact on defense this week as Howells-Dodge beat the Wildcats. The junior pulled down one interception.

Wisnieski put up the best numbers through the air as Mike Speirs's team defeated Cedar Bluffs. He finished with a total of one completions for 22 yards and one touchdown. Wisnieski's favorite target this week was Luke Hegemann, who caught one pass for 22 yards.

Lucas Gurnsey was the most productive running back in D1 District 2 (8 Man) this week. In eight carries, he ran for 149 yards as the Patriots topped the Chiefs. Teammate Kyle Schulz added to the ground attack by rushing for 61 yards.

Clarkson/Leigh's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Logan Went has thrown for 229 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Colton Tomka has five catches for 144 yards. Gurnsey leads the league in rushing with 546 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Clarkson/Leigh takes on the Bluejays. Jim Clarkson's team is currently in third, while Guardian Angels Central Catholic is in second.
