Baseball Game Preview: DeLaSalle Islanders vs. Richfield Spartans

The DeLaSalle Islanders will face off against the Richfield Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, DeLaSalle turned things around against Robbinsdale Cooper on Wednesday. They blew past the Hawks 11-1. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Islanders yet this season.

Meanwhile, Richfield hadn't done well against Washburn recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Millers a 10-0 shutout. Richfield's win was all the more impressive since the Millers were averaging only 3.8 runs allowed on the season.

The team relied heavily on Jayden Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Matthew Popp was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Richfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

DeLaSalle's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Richfield, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Everything went DeLaSalle's way against Richfield when the teams last played back in April, as DeLaSalle made off with an 11-3 win. Do the Islanders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
