Mountain View is 9-0-1 against Austin since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lobos will venture away from home to take on the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mountain View has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Austin will arrive with four straight victories.
Mountain View made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Clint, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lobos fell just short of the Lions by a score of 2-0 on Friday. Considering the last time the Lobos couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, Austin got the win against Varsity Opponent last Tuesday by a conclusive 15-9.
Adrian Frias was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hector Rodriguez was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Orozco, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Austin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Austin pushed their record up to 7-18 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, their loss dropped their record down to 12-16.
Mountain View came out on top in a nail-biter against Austin in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lobos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
