Metropolitan recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Metropolitan this week, Rosemont beat Florin 49-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Wolverine.
Valley scaled the state rankings by moving to 956 from 985 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Vikings climbed the ranks as a result of beating Johnson 14-0.
Pedro Maui was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Panthers lost to Rosemont. The 6-foot-2 junior recorded 1 fumble.
Caden Voges threw for 425 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was 24-35 with 1 interception.
Kyree Stephens was the best wideout in the league this week as Sacramento beat Kennedy. Stephens tallied 8 receptions for 158 yards. Elton Myers helped Sacramento's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 90 yards.
The Dragons' Voges and Damen Wheeler have formed a dream team this season, leading Metropolitan in both passing and receiving yards. Voges has thrown for 2,276 yards this season, while Wheeler, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 43 catches for 845 yards. The Cougars' Floyd Hillis-Cooper leads the league in rushing yards with 1,206.
Arthur Parker of the the Warriors is just 90 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Parker has rushed for 910 yards on 97 carries so far this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Rick Wanlin's team takes on Burbank. As it stands, the Wolverine are in first, while the Titans are in third.
Sacramento took down Matthew Costa's team 63-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Voges ran for 98 yards in the win.
