Baseball Game Preview: Jefferson Cougars vs. Martinsburg Bulldogs

The Jefferson Cougars will take on the Martinsburg Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Martinsburg will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Jefferson extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand Pendleton County a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won 14 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Alex Danner made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Hefner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Liam Healey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Martinsburg sidestepped Spring Mills for a 3-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Martinsburg's win bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 25-3-1.

Jefferson couldn't quite finish off Martinsburg when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 5-3. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
