Baseball Recap: Saranac Picks Up Tenth Straight Win at Home

Saranac had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Peru on Monday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Nighthawks with a sharp 9-2 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Seth Petrashune made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Robbie Squier was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Adrian Barnes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Saranac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Saranac's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Peru, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 12-1.

Saranac will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Nighthawks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
