Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Liberty Charter

Liberty Charter entered their tilt with Bayfront Charter on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Sharks. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered an 11-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leah Urias was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briza Pelayo, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Angie Carreon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Liberty Charter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayfront Charter struck out eight times.

Liberty Charter pushed their record up to 4-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Bayfront Charter, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty Charter will venture away from home to take on Bonsall at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Legionnaires have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Bayfront Charter, they are taking a road trip to face off against Morse at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
