Softball Game Preview: Shelby County Rockets vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs

The Shelby County Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shelby County is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Monday, Shelby County didn't have quite enough to beat Bourbon County and fell 4-3.

Kaylee Cox was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Cox was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Madison Clark made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Even though they lost, Shelby County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Paul Laurence Dunbar posted their closest victory since March 23, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Danville Christian Academy 3-2.

Shelby County's record now sits at 0-3. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.
