Hobart is 0-3 against Illiana Christian since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Brickies are taking a road trip to square off against the Vikings at 4:45 p.m. Hobart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Hobart managed to slip by Hanover Central the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Brickies lost 14-4 to the Wildcats on Tuesday.
Donio Pimentel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Illiana Christian). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Calumet New Tech a 31-0 shutout on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Armaan Sen was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Nick DeBlock was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with seven RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Connor Krause was another key player, scoring six runs while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances.
Illiana Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Illiana Christian and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.0 runs over those games. As for Hobart, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hobart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Illiana Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
