Recap: Homestead Mustangs vs. Palo Alto Vikings
The Homestead Mustangs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 42-0 loss at the hands of Palo Alto. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, Homestead couldn't push the score so high this time.
Carson Chang threw for 60 yards on nine of 17 attempts. Maxx Ward was his top target, picking up 35 receiving yards.
Palo Alto had a senior duo take command as Declan Packer threw for 265 yards and five touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes and Jason Auzenne picked up 154 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Auzenne was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 65 yards.
Homestead's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Hillsdale and 7-2 Aragon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.8% over those games). As for Palo Alto, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.
Homestead will square off against Fremont at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Palo Alto, they will be playing in front of their home fans against King's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (King's Academy is ranked 379th, while Palo Alto is ranked 394th).
