Skyler Gray was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Gray was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Adaline Allen and Emma Sturgell did most of the damage at the plate: Allen got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Sturgell got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Alexis Meyer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Barnwell came tearing into Monday's match with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Warhorses, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like South Aiken, Barnwell also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaidyn Devore. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and only one walk). Devore has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall O'Berry, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Genesis Walker, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Barnwell pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for South Aiken, their win bumped their record up to 5-20.
South Aiken couldn't quite get it done against Barnwell in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 10-7. Will the Thoroughbreds have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
