High school volleyball rankings: Mira Costa jumps to No. 1 in MaxPreps Top 25 after downing Mater Dei

Mustangs become third team to top rankings in as many weeks.

Days after winning the Volleypalooza title in Texas, top-ranked Mater Dei (Santa Ana) returned to Southern California for a match with Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach). The Monarchs weren't up to the challenge against the Mustangs, falling in four sets. But the aggressive scheduling only drops Mater Dei one spot while Mira Costa climbs into the No. 1 spot in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school volleyball rankings.

Mira Costa is the third No. 1 team in as many weeks in a season that's shown there are plenty of ultra-talented squads. But unlike the last two seasons with Marymount (Los Angeles) and Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.), no dominant team. Yet.

Cornerstone Christian (San Antonio) took home the Nike TOC Southeast title over the weekend in Florida with wins over Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), Winter Park (Fla.) and Carrollwood Day (Tampa, Fla.) in the Platinum bracket. The Warriors jump two spots to No. 3.

Three teams enter the MaxPreps Top 25 this week, including Boyd (McKinney, Texas), No. 17 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) and No. 24 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.).
