Basketball Recap: Sergeant Bluff-Luton Takes a Loss

Sergeant Bluff-Luton lost against Dakota Valley back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors were outmatched by the Dakota Valley Panthers and fell 76-48. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 120th in Iowa, while the Panthers are ranked third in South Dakota).

Leading Dakota Valley to victory were Logan Collette and Luke Bruns. Collette shot 4-for-7 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards, while Bruns went 8 of 18 on his way to 19 points along with six assists and three steals. That's the most assists Bruns has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of TaTum Sorensen, who posted ten points and three steals.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Dakota Valley, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-51 win against Jefferson on the 10th. As for Dakota Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-50 victory against Gehlen Catholic on the 11th.
