Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Loss Ends George West's Winning Streak

After a string of six wins, George West's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Zapata Hawks by a score of 50-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Longhorns have suffered since December 28, 2023.

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nathan Cantu, who went 7 of 14 en route to 17 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cantu a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Tristen Blevins, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 17 points and five steals.

George West's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Zapata, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. George West will take on Taft in a holiday battle at at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Zapata, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Economedes at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th.
