Basketball Game Preview: Rootstown Rovers vs. Chaney Cowboys

The Rootstown Rovers will venture away from home to face off against the Chaney Cowboys at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Rootstown is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Rootstown is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Lake Center Christian: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Rootstown blew Lake Center Christian out of the water with a 59-6 final score. The Rovers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Rootstown's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cloe Bengtson, who posted 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Bengtson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadia Lough, who put up eight points and four steals.

Rootstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Chaney was fully in charge on Monday, breezing past Alliance 46-13. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-11.

Rootstown's win was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points per game. As for Chaney, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5.
