Volleyball Recap: Lawrence Free State Firebirds vs. Olathe East Hawks

After losing to Olathe East the last time they met, Lawrence Free State decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Lawrence Free State Firebirds came out on top in a nail-biter against the Olathe East Hawks on Thursday, sneaking past 3-2. The victory was nothing new for the Firebirds as they're now sitting on five straight.

Lawrence Free State wouldn't go down easily and took Olathe East into a fifth set where they got it done with a eight-point win. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 15-7.

Lawrence Free State had a senior duo take command as Karsen Chapman had 31 digs and Lilly Wall had seven digs and three aces. That's the most aces Wall has posted since back in September of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Olathe East lost, don't look at Kate Wright. Despite the final result, she had 22 digs and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Malasy Sakounlaphoum, who had 12 digs.

Lawrence Free State's record now sits at 13-17. As for Olathe East, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-20.
