Preview: East St. Louis Flyers vs. Mascoutah Indians

The East St. Louis Flyers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Mascoutah Indians at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East St. Louis has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for East St. Louis at home against Belleville West as the squad secured a 53-23 victory. With East St. Louis ahead 38-11 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

East St. Louis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Camya Pitts, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Pitts grabbed two or more steals. Ryale Mosley was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.

Meanwhile, Mascoutah's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 70-54 bruising from Mt. Vernon. While losing is never fun, Mascoutah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 56th).

East St. Louis' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-8. As for Mascoutah, they bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

East St. Louis skirted past Mascoutah 50-47 in their previous meeting back in February. Will East St. Louis repeat their success, or does Mascoutah have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
