St. Thomas More entered their tilt with Athens on Saturday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Warriors. That's more bragging rights for the Sabers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

If you add up the scores from across all three sets (55-54) St. Thomas More actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 14-25, 15-11.

Athens lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Devan Barrett, who hit 87.5% for 22 kills and nine digs. She has been hot, having posted seven or more kills the last five times she's played. Talya Baker was another key player, getting four digs and four aces.

St. Thomas More's win bumped their record up to 22-8. As for Athens, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven matches and leaves them with a 25-5 record.

St. Thomas More wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Galena on the 18th. As for Athens, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 defeat against Pontiac on the 18th.
