Preview: McConnellsburg Spartans vs. Southern Fulton Indians
The McConnellsburg Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Southern Fulton Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McConnellsburg is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.
McConnellsburg put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 65-40 margin over Everett. Given McConnellsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Everett is ranked 602nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McConnellsburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Ramsey out in front who scored 12 points along with seven blocks and five rebounds. Shaffer Earley was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Southern Fulton beat Everett 45-41 on Wednesday. The victory was just what Southern Fulton needed coming off of a 72-33 loss in their prior contest.
McConnellsburg is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. As for Southern Fulton, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
McConnellsburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Southern Fulton in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 36-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for McConnellsburg since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
