Recap: Progreso Red Ants vs. Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions
This season hasn't been kind to The Progreso Red Ants, who are still winless after their tenth contest. They were outmatched by Santa Gertrudis Academy at home and fell 47-0. Progreso has struggled against Santa Gertrudis Academy recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Santa Gertrudis Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Julian Gonzalez out in front who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 20 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Elijah Riojas was another key contributor, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Progreso's loss was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 San Diego and 8-3 La Villa (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.5% over those games). As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5.
Progreso does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Santa Gertrudis Academy also has no future games currently scheduled.
