Baseball Game Preview: Hill Falcons vs. Monta Vista Matadors

The Hill Falcons will take on the Monta Vista Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Hill hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Hill took on Oak Grove on Saturday. Hill fell just short of Oak Grove by a score of 2-1.

Hill saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miguel Guerrero, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Monta Vista hadn't done well against Lynbrook recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Monta Vista walked away with a 9-4 victory over Lynbrook. While the Matadors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sravik Sajja and Mikey Owings did most of the damage at the plate: Sajja scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Owings scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Sajja has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Aiden Huang was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

The win made it two in a row for Monta Vista and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Hill, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Hill skirted past Monta Vista 2-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Will Hill repeat their success, or does Monta Vista has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
