Baseball Recap: Westfield Takes a Loss

Westfield extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 10-5 in the process. They lost 11-4 to the Noblesville Millers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Shamrocks, who until this matchup were averaging 3.93 runs allowed.

Westfield got a good showing from Owen Swinford, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest earned runs Swinford has allowed since back in April.

At the plate, Westfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Cimini, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Noblesville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-8. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7 runs.

On Noblesville's side, Trevor Corbett made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Corbett has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Cole Schott was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Noblesville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tanner Miller, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Noblesville beat Westfield by a score of 2-1 on Friday.
