Basketball Game Preview: Concord Yellowjackets vs. Stockbridge Panthers

The Concord Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to face off against the Stockbridge Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Concord comes in on five and Stockbridge on nine.

Last Monday, Concord didn't have too much trouble with Sturgis as they won 49-33. The Yellowjackets pushed the score to 43-18 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.

Concord can attribute much of their success to Connor Stevens, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards, and Jett Smith, who went 5 of 10 en route to 11 points along with six assists and three steals. Stevens' evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Darrell Dean Jr., who posted six points and three steals.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Stockbridge's strategy against Webberville on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Stockbridge blew Webberville out of the water with a 69-35 final score. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 27 points or more this season.

Concord is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points per game. As for Stockbridge, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Concord came up short against Stockbridge in their previous meeting back in January, falling 38-31. Can Concord avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
