Softball Game Preview: Tarkington Longhorns vs. MacArthur Generals

The Tarkington Longhorns will square off against the MacArthur Generals at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Tarkington has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Friday just wasn't the day for Tarkington's offense. They lost 15-0 to Vidor on Friday.

Tarkington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oakley Blackburn, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Brooke Marett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for MacArthur, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Eisenhower an 11-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Generals in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Miranda Machado was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ava Marie Ruiz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

MacArthur hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in six consecutive games.

Tarkington's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for MacArthur, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8-1.

Tarkington took their win against MacArthur in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0. Does Tarkington have another victory up their sleeve, or will MacArthur turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
