Baseball Recap: Fishburne Military Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Fishburne Military had lost five games at home dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 2-7 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Eastern Mennonite Flames 11-4. The Caissons' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Cooper Ezersky made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Benjamin Gilroy was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Simon Frankson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Eastern Mennonite, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

On Eastern Mennonite's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Ott, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. The Flames are 2-1 when Ott posts two or more runs, but 0-5 otherwise. Another was Chaysen Curry, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Fishburne Military and Eastern Mennonite could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Caissons (ranked 335th) will meet The Covenant (ranked 86th) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Eastern Mennonite will square off against Virginia Episcopal School at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (322 vs. 117).
