Basketball Game Preview: East Rowan Mustangs vs. Northwest Cabarrus Trojans

East Rowan hasn't had much luck against Northwest Cabarrus recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The East Rowan Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, East Rowan got the win against Concord by a conclusive 71-51. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Northwest Cabarrus had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 28-21 victory over the Vikings. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Vikings are ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northwest Cabarrus' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.7 points per game. As for East Rowan, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

East Rowan couldn't quite finish off Northwest Cabarrus in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 and fell 53-51. Can East Rowan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
