Softball Game Preview: Kutztown Cougars vs. Hamburg Hawks

The Kutztown Cougars will challenge the Hamburg Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Kutztown had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Schuylkill Haven on Monday. Kutztown never let Schuylkill Haven get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, Hamburg gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Berks Catholic with a sharp 15-1 win. Considering the Hawks have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Hamburg's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Kutztown, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Kutztown couldn't quite get it done against Hamburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Kutztown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
