Preview: North Duplin Rebels vs. Rosewood Eagles
North Duplin is 2-7 against Rosewood since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The North Duplin Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Rosewood Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for North Duplin at home against Union as the squad secured a 49-8 victory. The result was nothing new for North Duplin, who have now won four matchups by 41 points or more so far this season.
Dujuan Armwood continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 225 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Armwood was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Kelly, who rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown.
North Duplin's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Isaac Davis and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Rosewood had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five two weeks ago. They blew past Union 55-8 at home. Rosewood pushed the score to 48-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Union cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for David Lamm, who rushed for 89 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. Lamm is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nazier Powell, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
North Duplin has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight contests, giving them a 6-2 record. As for Rosewood, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3.
Thursday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Armwood and Lamm. Armwood has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 130.4 rushing yards per game this season. For his part, Lamm has averaged 127.1 rushing yards per game this season.
North Duplin took a serious blow against Rosewood when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 45-8. Can North Duplin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
