Baseball Recap: Bear River Victorious

The Bear River Bears beat the West Field Longhorns 10-5 on Wednesday.

Holden Potter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Bear River's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Broxton Gardner was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-5. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Bear River is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-6 otherwise. Kolten Summers was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Bear River hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matchups.

Bear River's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for West Field, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Bear River will have a chance to go back-to-back against West Field: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
