Basketball Recap: Eureka Beats Ukiah for Their Third Straight Victory

After losing to Ukiah the last time they met, Eureka decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eureka Loggers managed a 57-51 win over the Ukiah Wildcats on Saturday. Given the Loggers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Wildcats are ranked 838th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ukiah's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Lunceford, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 15 points and five boards. Those 15 points gave Lunceford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaleo Olson, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Eureka, bringing their record for this year to 14-4. As for Ukiah, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-16.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eureka will venture away from home to square off against Arcata at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Eureka knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Arcata likes a good challenge. As for Ukiah, they will head out to take on Elsie Allen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
