Baseball Recap: Aurora Christian Has No Trouble Against Metea Valley

Aurora Christian came out on top against Metea Valley on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Mustangs. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 9-3 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.

Nolan Robertson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Aurora Christian is undefeated when Robertson posts two or more runs, but 13-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, Aurora Christian let Cristian Huerta and Noah Hensley run wild. Huerta went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Hensley went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Hensley has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Wayne, who earned three runs.

Aurora Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Aurora Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Metea Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 19 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-20 record this season.

Aurora Christian and Metea Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Eagles will take on Marmion at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (257 vs. 119). Meanwhile, Metea Valley (ranked 261st) will meet Glenbard East (ranked 120th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
