Baseball Recap: Falls Lake Comes Up Short

Falls Lake was the 4-0 winner over South Granville when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Firebirds fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 5-4 on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Owen Joines was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Joines was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jacob Watson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Falls Lake's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for South Granville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Falls Lake will square off against Crossroads Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Colts will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Firebirds surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Granville, they will be taking part in a tournament against Vance Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
