MaxPreps Top 25 national high school baseball rankings

Olympia holds tight to top spot, Archbishop McCarthy and Mosley continue to move up.

The Titans have started the season at 10-0.

Nine teams tumbled out of the Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings this week, but No. 1 Olympia (Orlando, Fla.) held firm with a pair of wins to build a 10-0 record.

Hot on the Titans' heels, however, is a trio of Florida teams: Park Vista (Lake Worth), Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale) and Mosley (Lynn Haven), who have one loss between them. Park Vista has won 12 straight since losing its season opener while Archbishop McCarthy is 13-0 and Mosley is 12-0. They come in at No. 3-4-5 in this week's rankings.

JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) holds the No. 2 spot after opening the season with a pair of wins over Loyola. The Lions have a tough twinbill with Huntington Beach this week before heading to the National High School Invitational next week.



New teams to the rankings this week include Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.), which won the Perfect Game Showdown last week, Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.), Haines City (Fla.), Alonso (Fla.), Carroll (Southlake, Texas), Charles Henderson (Troy, Ala.), Corona del Sol (Tempe, Ariz.), Brandon (Miss.) and Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.).

MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings

1. (last week 1) Olympia (Orlando, Fla.), 10-0
The Titans remained unbeaten with a pair of wins over Oviedo and Edgewater. In a 9-7 win over Oviedo, Juan Hillman went five innings and gave up five runs on four hits with one strikeout, but still managed to get the win. Cameron Montgomery had a home run and Hillman blasted a triple. Michael Byrne went seven innings in the 8-2 win over Edgewater but did not get the win. He struck out 11 and gave up two runs on two hits. Montgomery doubled home the winning run in the ninth to ignite a six-run rally.

2. (2) JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), 2-0
Brady Shockey came up big in the Lions' opener as he went 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs in a 13-2 win over Loyola. Royce Lewis also stood out, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Shockey went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs in the nightcap to spark a 7-2 victory.

3. (5) Park Vista (Lake Worth, Fla.), 12-1
The Cobras continue to rack up the wins, posting two shutouts last week with a 2-0 win over Dwyer and a 10-0 win over Boynton Beach. Park Vista also topped Suncoast 11-1. Tyler Constable struck out seven in the win over Suncoast while Dakota Julylia had three RBIs. Austin Smith squared off against Dwyer's Thomas Szapucki, but neither pitcher was able to get the win. Smith struck out seven in eight innings while Szapucki went six innings and struck out seven. Jordan Poore went four innings and struck out 10 against Boynton Beach. Julylia added a pair of doubles.

4. (7) Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 13-0
The Mavericks won three times last week, including a 3-2 win over American Heritage (Plantation). They also blanked Dillard 10-0 and topped Somerset Academy 13-4. Ubaldo Lopez was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs against Dillard while Alex Toral hit a two-run homer against Somerset.

5. (8) Mosley (Lynn Haven, Fla.), 12-0
The Dolphins stayed undefeated with a pair of 4-3 wins over Bay (Panama City, Fla.) and Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton, Fla.) last week. Micheal Cullen struck out eight and went 2-for-3 at the plate in the win over Bay. Peyton Millirons struck out seven against Choctawhatchee. Mosley plays Fort Walton Beach on Friday before taking on JSerra Catholic in the first round of the National High School Invitational on March 25.



6. (10) College Station (Texas), 9-1-1

The Cougars had just one game last week, dropping Huntsville in district play 14-7. Ryan Johnson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the win. College Station plays two district games next week against Rudder and Bryan before heading to the National High School Invitational in North Carolina.

7. (12) Fayetteville (Ark.), 5-0
The Purple Dogs played their first in-state opponent and edged Conway 3-2 on Saturday. Thomas Broyles had a walk-off double in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Fayetteville the win. The Purple Dogs head to Arizona this week to defend their title at the Coach Bob Invitational.

8. (13) San Clemente (Calif.), 5-0
The Tritons won three straight last week including a 5-4 win over previous No. 24 Dana Hills as Will Tribucher singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kolby Allard went four innings and struck out four to get a 13-2 win over Millikan (Long Beach). San Clemente also defeated Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) 1-0.

9. (17) Sulphur (La.), 13-0
Sulphur won four more times last week, topping St. Louis 5-2, Airline 7-0, Ruston 6-1 and Benton 6-1. Matthew Ezernack drove in four runs against Benton while Kale Breaux struck out 15 in a no-hitter against Airline.

10. (18) Puyallup (Wash.), 1-0
The Vikings opened their season with an 8-3 win over South Kitsap. Brendan Illies was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs while Riley Pletcher was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

11. (21) Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 2-0
The Gaels opened the season with an 11-0 win over Canyon View (Utah) and a 4-2 win over Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) last week. Chase Maddux, the son of MLB Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, got the win, giving up no runs on three hits in four innings. Cadyn Grenier went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Grenier added a home run against Liberty while Jack Little went six innings and struck out five for the win.



12. (20) St. Rita (Chicago), 0-0
The Mustangs begin their season with Brother Rice (Chicago) on March 16.

13. (22) Pearland (Texas), 12-1-1
Pearland won its only game of the week, defeating South Houston 10-0. Ben Paddock was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Brady Basso went six innings, gave up one hit and struck out seven for the win.

14. (24) Dana Hills (Dana Point, Calif.), 8-1
The Dolphins went 2-1 last week, beating Vista Murrieta 5-3 and El Toro 9-1 before falling to San Clemente 5-4. Marrick Crouse was 2-for-4 with two RBIs against El Toro and he got the win against Vista Murrieta, striking out nine.

15. (NR) Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.), 8-1
Although Parkview has a one-run loss to Lassiter (Ga.), it rebounded in a big way by winning the Perfect Game Showdown last weekend. Parkview knocked off Cartersville twice, 11-2 and 2-0, Central (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) 12-1, IMG Academy 2-1 in nine innings and Kennesaw Mountain (Ga.) 10-0 in the championship game.

16. (NR) Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.), 8-0
The Warriors have key wins over Elk Grove (2-1), San Benito (3-0), Archbishop Mitty (7-1), Leigh (7-0), Leland (5-0) and Jesuit (3-0). Keenan Brigman has been hot for Valley Christian, batting .542 so far.

17. (NR) Haines City (Fla.), 11-1-1
Defeated Winter Haven 2-1 in eight innings last week and also has an unfinished tie game with No. 1 Olympia. The only loss of the season is to Coral Gables.



18. (NR) Alonso (Tampa, Fla.), 13-1
Has won its last three games by shutout, including a 4-0 win over Leto, a 3-0 win over Durant and a 1-0 victory over Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.).

19. (NR) Carroll (Southlake, Texas), 10-0
The Dragons have won their first 10 games of the season with only two of them closer than five runs.

20. (NR) Charles Henderson (Troy, Ala.), 16-0
Last year's Class 4A state champions, Charles Henderson is in Class 5A now and off to a 16-0 start on the season. Chase Smartt is batting .551 (27 for 49) with 21 RBIs and 12 doubles so far this season.

21. (NR) Corona del Sol (Tempe, Ariz.), 7-0
The Aztecs have outscored opponents 75-11 this season including 43-4 in the last three games.

22. (NR) Brandon (Miss.), 10-0
Brandon is hitting the ball at nearly a .400 clip with 13 home runs in 10 games. Jackson Mitchell and Hunter Wilson each have four home runs.

23. (NR) Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.), 9-1
The Bears have a loss to Clovis West, but have recent wins over Liberty (Bakersfield), Elk Grove and Pleasant Grove.



24. (11) Winter Haven (Fla.), 10-2
Winter Haven defeated Lake Wales 9-3 last week, but it also suffered a 2-1 loss to Haines City.

25. (3) Kennesaw Mountain (Kennesaw, Ga.), 8-2
After knocking off the No. 1 team in the nation last week with a 3-0 win over Lambert, Kennesaw Mountain fell to Blessed Trinity 3-1 in a nonleague contest. The Mustangs had a strong showing at the Perfect Game Showdown, winning three straight before falling to Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.). 10-0. Kennesaw Mountain topped Columbia 13-3, Venice (Fla.) 4-1 and Concordia Lutheran (Tomball, Texas), 8-3. Terence Norman went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs against Concordia Lutheran while Tyler Stephenson was 2-for-4 with a triple. Garrett Blinkhorn hit a home run against Columbia while Matt Cole was 3-for-3 and Hampton Clark had two doubles. Against Venice, Zach Goodman went the distance and struck out nine to get the win.

Dropped out: No. 4 Lambert (Suwanee, Ga.), No. 6 DeSoto Central (Southaven, Miss.), No. 9 IMG Academy (Brandenton, Fla.), No. 14 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), No. 15 College Park (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), No. 16 Cullman (Ala.), No. 19 Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.), No. 23 Rockledge (Fla.), No. 25 Lassiter (Marietta, Ga.).
