Football Recap: Lee County Takes a Loss

Lee County was the 35-23 winner over Thomas County Central when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Trojans took a 35-21 bruising from the Yellow Jackets on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked seventh).

When it comes to explaining why Lee County lost, don't look at Jordan Bush. Despite the final result, he rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 197 yards and one TD. A healthy portion of that aerial production (116 yards to be exact) went to Jaden Upshaw, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Christian Lawrence continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Thomas County Central, rushing for 210 yards and one score while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 54 receiving yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Lawrence is now averaging an impressive 106.8 rushing yards per game. Jaylen Johnson was another key player, throwing for 169 yards and three touchdowns.

Lee County's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Thomas County Central, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Lee County will head out to take on Coffee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Bush and Kentavius Debruce. As for Thomas County Central, they are taking a road trip to square off against Veterans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets are facing the Warhawks at the right time seeing as the Warhawks are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
