While Thornwood didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Hammond Central Wolves 19-7 on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by 12 runs or more this season.
Dajah Claggette made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Milan Crain was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cyncere Parson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Thornwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
With the victory, Thornwood broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-5. As for Hammond Central, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-4 record.
Coming up, Thornwood will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Brooks at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Thunderbirds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hammond Central, they will venture away from home to take on East Chicago Central at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
