Basketball Recap: Wheatland-Grinnell Takes a Loss

Wheatland-Grinnell lost against Logan/Palco back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks came up short against Logan/Palco, falling 50-27. While losing is never fun, the Thunderhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Logan/Palco are ranked 64th).

Despite the defeat, Wheatland-Grinnell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Spencer Beckman posted ten points. That's the most points Beckman has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Riley Tuttle, who earned 13 points.

Rhett Kats continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Logan/Palco, going 6-for-8 en route to 16 points along with eight boards and six steals. Kats has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 17 times he's played. Ethan Gaschler was another key player, going 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points.

Wheatland-Grinnell has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Logan/Palco, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Wheatland-Grinnell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-32 win against Golden Plains on the 8th. As for Logan/Palco, they have also already played their next contest, a 70-47 victory against Weskan on the 8th.
