Northview was the 49-21 winner over Freeport when they last played one another back in November of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Northview Chiefs took a 36-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Freeport Bulldogs on Friday. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Northview lost, don't look at Dane King. Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

He was just one part of a punishing run game: Northview was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 299 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freeport only rushed for 84.

Northview's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged four passes before it was all said and done. Jacori Peacock led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.

Caleb Leonard was nothing short of spectacular for Freeport: he threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt, and also picked up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Leonard also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending three passes. A healthy portion of that aerial production (136 yards to be exact) also went to Julius Miles.

Northview now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Freeport, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Northview will be playing in front of their home fans against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Freeport, they will venture away from home to challenge Cottondale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Freeport focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
