Preview: Florida Christian Patriots vs. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones
The Florida Christian Patriots will square off against the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Florida Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday.
With a playoff game on the line, Florida Christian rose to the challenge on Monday. They breezed by the Red Raiders at home to the tune of 67-38. Florida Christian's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Florida Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Zoe Campos, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and three steals, and Natalia Stocker, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Campos scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Perez, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They pulled ahead with a 30-29 photo finish over Ferguson. The victory was just what Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart needed coming off of a 72-52 loss in their prior match.
Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alissa Azcuy, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Azcuy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Kaira Borges was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Florida Christian's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9. As for Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Florida Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Florida Christian took a serious blow against Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 63-19. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Florida Christian was down 48-7.
