Basketball Preview: Cairo Pilots vs. Murphysboro Red Devils
Cairo is 0-3 against the Red Devils since December of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cairo Pilots will head out on the road to take on the Murphysboro Red Devils at 7:45 p.m. Cairo is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Cairo took a serious blow against the Eagles, falling 89-49. While losing is never fun, Cairo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 604th in Illinois, while the Eagles are ranked second in Missouri).
Meanwhile, Murphysboro lost to the Eagles on the road by a decisive 64-48 margin on Saturday. Murphysboro has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cairo has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. As for Murphysboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-10.
Cairo was taken down by the Red Devils 67-40 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Cairo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
