Softball Game Preview: Westland Cougars vs. Big Walnut Golden Eagles

The Westland Cougars will challenge the Big Walnut Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westland has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Westland fell victim to Hayes and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 14-0 to the Pacers. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Big Walnut won against Westerville North on Monday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles beat Dublin Scioto by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Sarah Adams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kennedy Reed was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

Big Walnut's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Westland, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-17.
