Skyline extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 6-15. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bountiful Redhawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Tuesday.
Steven Pedroza put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Abe Wilson and Cole Muse stepped up to the plate in a big way. Wilson went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Muse went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Muse's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
As for Bountiful, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-11. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch.
Like Skyline, Bountiful also got a great game from a two-way player: Tegan Barnes. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bountiful is 2-1 when Barnes allows one or fewer hits, but 7-10 otherwise. Barnes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graham Fuller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Tait Caldwell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
While Skyline had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
