Basketball Recap: Fleming Island Golden Eagles vs. Orange Park Raiders

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles and the Orange Park Raiders squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but sadly the Fleming Island Golden Eagles had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Raiders on the road and fell 87-60. Fleming Island's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Despite the loss, Fleming Island still got an impressive performance from Devyn Dudones, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 1 assist. Dudones is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of London Jenkins, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.

Orange Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Piera Alexander led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Alexander is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Autumn Nesmith was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.

Fleming Island's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Orange Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season.

Fleming Island does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Orange Park will head out on the road to take on the Barracudas at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Beachside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday.
