Baseball Recap: Standley Lake Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Standley Lake ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over the Pomona Panthers. The victory was some much needed relief for the Gators as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Titus Schrecengost made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Dylan Lindenmayer was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Marc Garcia was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs.

Standley Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Standley Lake's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Pomona, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Standley Lake will face off against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Commanders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.95 runs per game on average), something the Gators will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pomona, they will head out to face off against Westminster at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
