Baseball Recap: Gorham Fayette Takes a Loss

Gorham Fayette extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They came up short against North Central, falling 21-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against North Central this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-4 back in April.

As for North Central, their record now sits at 8-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For North Central's part, Jackson Poynter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Poynter has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, earning one RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of North Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, North Central got a massive performance out of Briggs Fiser, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. North Central is undefeated when Fiser posts two or more runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Kade Stewart was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coincidentally, Gorham Fayette and North Central will both be playing Stryker the next time they take the field. Gorham Fayette will host Stryker at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while North Central will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
