Challis hasn't had much luck against Butte County recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Challis Vikings will get right back to it and host the Butte County Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Challis is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing American Heritage: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Challis blew American Heritage out of the water with a 56-22 final score. The win was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on three straight.
Challis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ramey Rhoades out in front who posted 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Brayden Ollar was another key player, putting up 12 points along with six boards and four steals.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Butte County on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Lighthouse Christian out of the water with a 70-25 final score. With the Pirates ahead 47-10 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Butte County's win came from a few key players Challis will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was McCoy Jensen, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Keaton Archibald, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 10 points in addition to six assists and six boards.
Butte County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.
Butte County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.7 points. As for Challis, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Challis barely slipped by Butte County in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 48-47. Does Challis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Butte County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
