League recap: Guerin Catholic climbs in standings with win

Guerin Catholic was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 34th to 28th in Freelance. Earlier in the week, Guerin Catholic triumphed over Centerville 55-0.

Noblesville Lions moved up to 193 from 227 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Noblesville Lions was able to make move up by topping Landmark Christian 27-26.

Cade Price was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 230 yards on 16 carries as Jay County beat Monroe. J.D. Mangas also contributed to the rushing game with 214 yards on the ground.

Jason Sawa made the biggest impact on defense this week as Boone Grove topped Edison. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed one interception, recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.

Antonio Pipkin put up the best numbers through the air as Bowman Academy defeated River Forest. He finished with a total of 13 completions for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Pipkin's favorite target this week was Laron Golden, who caught six passes for 79 yards.

Warrum was the best wideout in Freelance this week as the Eagles beat the Tigers. Warrum tallied five receptions for 126 yards. John Bryant helped Heritage Christian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 43 yards.

Heritage Christian's Matt Hunt and Warrum have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hunt has thrown for 2900 yards this season, while Warrum, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 74 catches for 1537 yards. The Patriots' Mangas leads the league in rushing yards with 1201.

Norm Tate's team's J Graham Lindman is within 70 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Middletown Christian. So far this year, Lindman has thrown for 1930 yards with 27 touchdowns and six interceptions.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brebeuf Jesuit Prep takes on Bishop Chatard. The Braves are currently in fifth, while the Trojans are in sixth.

East Chicago Central extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Hammond, 28-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Cardinals.
