Volleyball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 3-1 to the Beech Grove Hornets. The Artesians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Beech Grove scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21.

Owen Zurita paced Martinsville's offense, picking up nine kills. Zurita got some help from Garrett Gardner and his 11 assists. Zurita was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Martinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Beech Grove, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Martinsville is set to challenge their familiar foe Monrovia at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Beech Grove will square off against rival Park Tudor at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
