Basketball Recap: Elkin Sets Scoring Season-High Against Starmount

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkin). They breezed by the Starmount Rams to the tune of 76-34 on Thursday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Buckin' Elks with their most commanding win of the season.

When it comes to explaining why Starmount lost, don't look at Sean Gregory. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Corey Armstrong, who put up four points and 12 rebounds.

Elkin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Starmount, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Elkin and Starmount could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Elkin (ranked 415th) will meet Surry Central (ranked 132nd) at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Starmount (ranked 625th) will meet South Stokes (ranked 90th) at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
