Basketball Recap: Jefferson RISE Charter Comes Up Short

If Jefferson RISE Charter was riding high fresh off their 80-51 takedown of Abramson on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Jefferson RISE Charter came up short against the Hammond Tornadoes on Tuesday, falling 80-54. While losing is never fun, Jefferson RISE Charter can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 320th, while Hammond is ranked 77th).

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson RISE Charter lost, don't look at Aaron Richardson. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-18 on his way to 20 points and six assists. Richardson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 20 or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Joshua Wilkins, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 9 points and six boards.

Richardson wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Jefferson RISE Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hammond only racked up six assists.

Hammond's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dejuan Lucas, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Those 18 points gave Lucas a new career-high. Joseph Carbo was another key player, going 5-for-8 en route to 15 points.

Jefferson RISE Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 12-19. As for Hammond, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-9.

Jefferson RISE Charter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-55 victory against West St. John on the 19th. Hammond does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
