Softball Recap: Liberty Christian Academy Eagles vs. Delaware Christian Eagles
Liberty Christian Academy had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it seven. They came up short against Delaware Christian, falling 12-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Delaware Christian this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in April.
Liberty Christian Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jerynn Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
As for Delaware Christian, they now have a winning record of 7-6. Considering they have won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Delaware Christian's side, Ava Hovda was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Hovda has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Cosette Stump was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. Ashlyn McCoy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Coming up, Liberty Christian Academy will challenge Genoa Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Delaware Christian, they will face off against Mt. Gilead at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
